My music contains media in .m4a format can I use these?
Windows Media Player does not support all encoding formats by default, but there are often plugins available on the internet that add support for particular formats. A quick search on the web using something like “media player m4a plugin” will provide some relevant results. Once the plugin is downloaded and installed, Media Player will be able to play your music, and it should therefore work correctly in My Music Quiz. [Back]
I don’t usually use Media Player, how do I add music to the library?
There is a description how to do this in the My Music Quiz User Guide, which can be downloaded from this web site. [Back]
When I show the answers, why do some appear to be blank or Unknown?
With some music formats Media Player is not able to read the song information “tags” from the file and will leave them blank. Again there are often third party plug-ins that fix this. Just search on the internet using keywords "Media Player", "tags" and your media type. [Back]
How do I add guest media to a quiz?
Please see the step by step instructions within the My Music Quiz User Guide, available from the Downloads page. [Back]
Why does it take longer to start playing when playing the game with Guest Media?
When using guest media, the music is played directly from the portable player across the USB interface. If you have an older machine with USB 1.1 then it may be a little slow. PCs with USB 2.0 will perform better. In some cases it may be possible to upgrade by installing a USB 2.0 adaptor in the PC. [Back]
Is there a limit to how many guest media players can take part?
Not really. It’s just limited by the number of USB ports on your computer. If you need more you can add USB hubs. You may also be limited by the number of spare drive letters on your computer. [Back]
Why do the answers sometimes look strange, e.g. spelling mistakes, wrong titles etc?
My Music Quiz gets this information from the data contained within the music files on your machine. If this data is incorrect, this will be reflected in the information displayed. This data can be updated within Media Player manually, or via several online databases. [Back]
Why do some questions just seem to be silence or hiss?
It’s possible in some types of music to hit an entirely silent section, particularly at the beginning or end of a song. Use the play options (e.g. Play Longer, Play at Start, Play to End) to move or extend the audio being played. [Back]
My personal firewall says My Music Quiz is trying to access the internet. Should I allow this?
You may block these accesses made to the internet, without affecting the operation of the quiz. My Music Quiz does not have any requirement for internet access. My Music Quiz uses various parts of Microsoft Windows to run, including Microsoft .NET Framework, and Microsoft Media Player. At some point, an internet request is made to resolve the name 'crl.verisign.net'. This access is not required for the correct operation of My Music Quiz. We are currently investigating why this access is made. [Back]
What does the message “Number of Clips 2” mean?
The current question contains two samples playing simultaneously. [Back]
The Number of Clips is 2; why do I only hear one song playing?
You may have hit a quiet passage in one sample and a loud passage in another. That’s why we give you the status message letting you know there are two samples playing. You have a few options to help you hear both. You could play longer and hope to get past the quiet section, or you could use the Play Simpler button to hear the samples one at a time. [Back]
Demo Not Licensed Error; why do I get this error under Windows Vista?
This error will occur with Version 1.0 of My Music Quiz when attempting to run under Windows Vista. This error is fixed in Version 1.1 of My Music Quiz. Please download and install Version 1.1 or later, of My Music Quiz. [Back]
Timed Out Waiting on Media To Load error; why do I get this error under Windows Vista?
Some systems running Windows Vista have exhibited the error above. In addition, music and videos will also be slow to start playing from within Media Player. This is caused by problems with the Audio Driver.
To correct this, enhancements must be disabled for the audio hardware. This can be done from Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Manage Audio Devices. From the Playback Tab, select "Speakers/Headphones" and press the Properties button. On the Enhancements Tab, ensure that the "Disable all Enhancements" box is checked.
The possible score has reduced to 1 as we tried to guess the answer, why can't we hit "Play Again" since it only reduces the score by 1? We get a message saying "Not enough points left to play again"
Since playing again would take the score down to zero and you'd score no points we decided to just move the quiz along to the next question. [Back]
I installed the latest version of the quiz and it now says "Your demo has expired. You need to purchase a licence to continue using this software" yet I already purchased a licence file.
This problem is caused if you uninstall the old version of the quiz before installing the new version, the uninstall deletes all files including the licence. Fixing it is simple, just copy the licence file from the email you received when you purchased the quiz. If you no longer have the email please get in touch with us by email at the link below and we will re-send your licence. [Back]
I installed the latest version of the quiz and now whenever it starts iTunes starts as well.
The latest version of the game added iTunes support, this means people who would rather use iTunes than Windows Media Player can now play the game without having to import all their music into Winows Media Player. When the game starts it looks at how many tracks you have in iTunes and Windows Media Player, to let you know which has most tracks available. To check the number of tracks the game must launch Windows Media Player and iTunes and ask them how many tracks they have, Windows Media Player can be launched in a hidden mode so you don't see it, iTunes currently does not support this, and you will see it in your taskbar when it is launched. Note iTunes mode is now the default, if you wish to use Windows Media player instead, please go to options media players and select Windows Media Player. [Back]
I installed the latest version of the quiz and now whenever it starts iTunes starts as well, can I stop this?
If you are happy using Windows Media Player, then you need to do a couple of things to prevent iTunes starting.- Go to the options menu within the game, then select media player and select Windows Media Player.
- When you launch the game, it displays a count of tracks within iTunes and Windows Media Player, on this screen you need to select the box that says "don't show this message again" this will prevent the game launching iTunes to count the number of tracks it has next time it launches.
I installed version 1.3 of the game, and it seems to take longer to start than previous versions.

When I play the game with iTunes, the Added Difficulty features don't seem to work (e.g. play slow)
The current version of iTunes does not support playing tracks fast, slow, simaltaneously or in reverse, if you play a quiz with any of these features selected the track will just play normally. [Back]
